  1. The higher the number, the more seats crammed in, which is directly proportional to the lower amount of legroom I have!

And THUMBS DOWN to losers who don't like a little humor in their lives.

  2. Its the series number like a 747 series 100 SP issome sort of modification the 777-200 is another series whereas as you say 222 series would then be an improved or modified something (sorry have no triple 7)

  3. 777-222 would mean 777-200 and the 22 is added on to designate United Airlines.

.Lately they've been using 738 to mean a 737-800.  It's kinda like an abbreviation.

    .

A 767-223ER for example is a 767-2(00) the 23 (means American Airline) ER (extended range)

  4. Its a version number.  For instance the 737 has had several versions 737-100 through the 737-900   The higher the number usually means the newer the version.   Usually a version has different design features (range, size, engine nacelles etc)

  5. The last two numbers designates the airline that first ORDERED  the plane from Boeing.  For example, Qantas is 38.  They operate 747-400's with Rolls Royce engines and GE engines both are 747-438 and ER's, 747-438ER.  They also bought an old Asiana 747-48E and two Malaysian 747-4H6's which are now painted like the rest Qantas' planes.

  6. It is the designation for the airline that operates that series.
