So i've heard that hairdressers hate shampoos and conditioners that contain silicone. What does the silicone do to your hair?

Is it true that it makes hair impossible to curl ?

  1. Silicone is bad for your hair. If you use it long term it will damage your hair. Your better of  using a clarifying shampoo and using a more conditioning shampoo 2 or 3 times a week. But the beautybrains.com has a different view.

  2. It just coats your hair..It gives you build up, and dosen't do anything. One product that is known is known to contain Wax is Pantene...But Just about all over the counter shampoo's and conditioners contain wax.

  3. It can make it difficult to curl hair coz after a while the silicone builds up and coats the hair so that it's like trying to curl dirty hair, it can get sticky and gross. i know becuase my cousin used pantene for a long time and her hair is all brittle. everytime you use shampoo and stuff with silicone you're coating you hair in whats almost like a thin layer of plastic, it looks good in the beginning, you're hair is silky and soft and it stays silky but becomes weak and breaks real easy (that's why it becomes hard to curl, the hair breaks or the curls fall apart). i would not use it if i was you, at least not on a regular basis. try using a little bit more conditioner or you can get conditioning hair products which achieve the same affect but don't cause the damage that products with silicone do and you can still curl your hair.

  4. The silicone is kind of like a wax that coats your hair and makes it look healthy & shiny...it isn't really good for your hair though. i use Pantene pro V  before i have to go out sometimes (because it contains silicone) otherwise i don't use it everyday.

  5. It makes it difficult to dye, as the silicone coats the hair.
