Question:

What does the small audio cable have to do with a DVD-ROM or DVD/RW?

I can play a music CD in my DVD-ROM and it doesn't have an audio cable connecting it to the motherboard. How can that be? Why do they give you the little cable if it's not needed?

I don't understand how they work. Can you explain?

  1. Hi Im2hard2please,

Today's motherboards have the sound connection built into the PCI and ISA expansion slots.

The older ones had a separate cable that plugged into the mother board.

They provide the cable in case you have an older setup.
