  1. How easy it is for a creature to consume food and convert it to essential vitamins and nutrients.

  2. the ability to comprehend how much info your brain is able to absorb in a day

  3. When we take a simple example that molasses is rated as 100% digestible, we mean that less than 0.5% of the molasses gets through the gut unabsorbed. This is a theoretical maximum that does not take into account the health of the digestive system.

This does not take into account whether the animal can be healthy with this food alone.

We can greatly improve our digestibility percentage by finely grinding the food. This may not improve the health of the animals.

We can sprout grain and get better results, or for non-ruminants we can pre-process it as a biotic culture to increase digestibility.

But we rarely see anyone evaluating digestibility at this level. The percentage of digestibility is so much determined by the starting feedstock that we concentrate all efforts to raising that.

Oh, yes, we do see people feeding lots of molasses to ruminants in Cuba, It seems to work well with poultry manure to provide a highly digestible and high protein food for the cattle.

  4. it just means how easy it is for the animal to get it through, like when you see corn in the stool.

  5. I guess it refers to how easily or difficult a certain type of feed is for an animal to digest.

  6. A cow eating whole kernel corn will pass completely through in the manure.

A cow eating cracked/crushed/ground corn will absorb more of the food value.

  7. The term Digestability of feed referes to the amount of feed that is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract (GIT)  of the animal

  8. the ability of human or animal to digest the food they ate. It may be easy or difficult depends on the digestive system itself.

  9. it means how easy a feed or ration can be easily digested by livestock..

  10. Plant materials are made up of carbohydrates, protein, lignin, etc.  Feed products that come from the seeds of the plants ie. corn, soybeans versus the use of the whole plant ie. corn silage, alfalfa all have certain levels of digestability.  Much of this depends on the maturity levels at which the products were harvested.  Pre-bloom alfalfa has a higher percentage of acid detergent fiber which is very digestable vs. late bloom alfalfa in which the lignin (part of fiber content) content is very high and this is poorly digested.  Sending samples of various feed stuffs to the forage labs will report back the various levels of protein, net energy, fiber and from this you can balance your rations for the livestock that you are feeding.

  11. It means How the stomach and intestine digest the food..that , is food to be absorbed to ur live tissues or wasted like a ****!

  12. It means how easily livestock can digest its food and get the essential vitamins and nutrients

  13. The digestibility of feed is a measure of the quality of the feed so that you can determine which feed to give your animal to determine that he is getting the feed he needs and you are getting the value that you paid for. Digestibility of feed is expressed as Percentage of Protein and Total Digestible Nutrients or TDN.

The estimated TDN percentage (% TDN) describes the energy content of the feed (grains and forages). The % TDN is also an indicator of forage quality since it measures the digestibility and therefore the fibre content of the feed. TDN percentage is a calculation based on the laboratory

analysis for acid detergent fiber (ADF). Formulas used at labs are:

    For Forages

    % TDN = 104.97 - (1.302 X % ADF)

    For Grains

    % TDN = 83.0 -(1.12 X % ADF)

TDN in the 50-55 per cent range are average, while 60 and higher are excellent quality.

Anything less than 50 per cent TDN is a poor quality forage
