Opposite hitters or Right side hitters carry the offensive workload for a volleyball team. Their primary responsibilities are to attack the ball from the right side and to put up a well formed block against the opponents Outside Hitters. This player hits the most balls on the team. He/she is set from the front row and the back row. Sets to the opposite usually go to the right side.

The position OPP is opposite hitter. this is the person that is usually opposite of the setter, not a very strong hitter, has nice hands to set with and is a good blocker to block the other teams outside hitter.

Opposite hitter is your most powerful hitter at higher levels of play.  Most of the offense go thru them at the higest levels. You want big hits and good blocking from them.

At lower levels the primary hitters in the offense are the Outside Hitter and Middle Hitter. The Opposite doesn't get as many sets at these levels due to the lower skill levels of the Setter. Many setters at lower levels are not as adept at backsetting an opposite hitter. Hence less opportunities for the Opposite. At lower levels the most explosive offensive player is usually the OH.

At lower levels, The Opposite is counted upon to set the ball occasionally, so he needs decent hands too...
