  1. If your talking about the little cap you pull the lid off, its a vent. When you pour the gas out it will pour smoothly if you open this vent cap, instead of it gulping out.

You can also open it to make sure fumes dont pressurize inside the can, but I dont because my pouring nozzle is always open to the can.

  2. ventilation

  3. It allows air to enter so that the gas can pour more easily from the can.

  4. I think you are talking about the 2nd hole for air intake.  When you pour the gas the liquid goes out one hole but air cannot get into the can to replace the space left by the lost gas.  Opening the yellow hole allows air to enter the gas can so that the gas can exit the other hole uninterrupted.

  5. vents out the fumes.

  6. lets air into the can so that it pours in a continuous stream

  7. it lets out the air pressure inside the can so that it doesn't build up and shoot gas out of it

  8. Its a vent for the gas can...

  9. it lets the fumes out so as not to build up to a dangerous level of pressure and explode...

  10. It's called a vacuum trap.  It lets air in when you're pouring so it doesn't "glug" and spill gas everywhere.

  11. It lets air in, to replace the gasoline that pours out.  Can't you hear it?  Put your finger over it.

  12. Depends on what kind of grass your cutting, and if watching, can be a corn jug whiskey yearn.
