  1. It is best known for its maritime history and as giving its name to the Greenwich Meridian (0° longitude) and Greenwich Mean Time.

    The Zero line of longitude is where East meets West.  Longitude starts here from both directions.  It is also the starting point for the worlds time zones.   The meridian runs through Greenwich, London, which gives its name to Greenwich mean time (GMT) also known internationally as Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC).
