i think it means that he/she is dreaming about the person he/she wants...and that is the only time he/she can see that person...

This person has found someone that is his or her better half and it completes them.  They are having a hard time letting go, almost as if they want to wake up from the nightmare.  The sad thing is that it's not a nightmare, it's reality.
