  1. #1

A person is essentially defined by their knowledge.

    I really like # 2..

In the first part of the quote he is talking about "intellectual poverty." At first his mind lacked knowledge/education, meaning  he had a "poor" mind, but after studying, and broadening his intellectuality, he became "intellectually wealthy"  however he was still physically poor. So BASICALLY he's saying that he became intellectually wealthy far before he became physically, or materialistically wealthy.

  2. The first one, is that if a man has a good reputation, he won't express himself as much, or be a true individual, because his reputation would go down.

The second one, college made him poor, and then he worked so much to make up for it and to have a family that he was even poorer, not just economically, but a poor lifestyle as well.

  3. i dont know what the first one means but the second one means that they learned and learned their way out of being poor before they worked a job to stop being poor. like they went to school and learned all they could and thats how they stopped being poor. not just working a job day after day without a proper education...i think. yah i really think.

    2. You have to be smart to get out of poverty. You go to college before you get a job. Hence you read first then get a job.
