Question:

What does this comment mean?

It happened a few weeks ago. My daughter and I stepped out of our apartment and were headed to the car, and there was a little boy, maybe five years old or so, riding a bike, and my daughter pointed at him and said, "Look, he's riding a bike!" (She's only three, btw.) And the boy's mother said, "What, she's never seen a bike before?"

I thought it was kind of bizarre. I don't know if the woman was trying to make a joke or if it was more like, "Why is your daughter making comments/pointing at my son?"

Isn't it normal for kids to say random stuff like my daughter did?

What did the lady mean? It's been bugging me because I saw them riding around again today.

  1. It sounds like the "Why is your daughter making comments/pointing at my son?" theory to me... a bit odd but my only thought is that maybe the boy had some kind of disability (maybe not physical but intellectual so you couldn't really tell without a good look) and she is sick of people looking at her son differently?? I don't know but that's the only thing I can think of.

oh... I just reread my post and hope it didn't sound like I thought your daughter did anything wrong... cos she certainly didn't. This woman was out ofline but may just have been having a bad day or something.

I was once walking through a shopping center just before it closed on around Christmas time... most ppl had left and this random lady crossed from the other side of the walkway (like 10 metres away) and jumped in front of me and yelled "ARE YOU GOING TO WALK INTO ME TOO?"

I was so shocked I just said no and kept walking LOL... some ppl are just weird

  2. It doesnt matter she probably just wants you 2 feel bad thats why my mother says when you see some1 have something that you have 2 dont point 2 talk about it just whisper it 2 who ever you were trying to tell as in a sister of yours..... She probably doesnt like anybody in her son's buisness..

  3. Maybe the mom was having a bad day.  I wouldn't worry about it.  My daughter felt it necessary to tell me that a gentleman was a black man.  What do you say?????  I would tell your observant 3 year old that she's right, and very smart!

  4. Are you sure she didn't say something like "aw, has she ever been on a bike before?".

that is weird if she said what you thought.

  5. it is the ladies problem not your child's. She is 3, they point out the obvious at that age. The woman is just rude and not worthy of the time you are giving her by thinking about it.

  6. Your a good mother, but doesn't mean all mother's are good.  It sounds to me like she was in a bad mood or a mean person.  You can't let people like this get to you.  There all around the world.  As rude as she was, one day your daughter will ride a bike and you will be very proud of her.  Don't let other people affect you.

  7. Wow, she's just RUDE. She was trying to be insulting.

My daughter is 2 and says stuff like that.. She'll point and tell us there's a plane in the air but no one says rude stuff like that to us. ?

i wonder why she's being like that towards yall.

  8. The lady is rude and should not have made that comment.  It is very normal for young children to make random comments.  I would ignore this lady.  She should know better, but I wouldn't let her smallness bother you.

  9. She was just a rude dog.

  10. when in doubt, ask the person making the comment.  this way, the different opinions you receive from Yahoo won't confuse you.

  11. next time you see the bike laying on the front lawn or parked on their driveway or something, steal it and run it over with your car. i hate people like that...she's 3 for pete's sake.

  12. Clearly some people just don't think before they speak! She probably feels embarrassed for saying something so stupid. Don't dwell on her stupidity for too long.

I think it's adorable what kids at 3 come up with. The worlds so big but for a 3 yr old the world is inside their own backyard.

Your daughter sounds so cute. Keep us posted with all her little comments! :)

As the saying goes: Kids say the darnedest things.

  13. Ya its normal for little kids to ask questions, it how they learn.  You little one is just trying to reinforce what she knows.  This other mom just sounds like a brat, but maybe she was just having a bad day.  if it happens again I would just say yes he is riding a bike.  if the mom says something then I would just smile and walk away it is not worth getting angry over.  I would just be happy that my child was learning, and can name many different objects and isn't scared to do so.

  14. sounds like a good person to stay away from. what a jerk.

  15. The lady was rude in my opinion.  It's not unusual for a young child to make a comment like that and even if she was older it was an OBSERVATION. You daughter didn't say anything wrong at all.  I would avoid the lady if possible and let go.

  16. I think she was just being a butt.

Sometimes when we have bad days its kinda hard not to say negative things like that.

Maybe the kind begged her to go out riding until she finally caved and it put her in a bad mood.

Just look at it is, your daughter saw something she liked and thought it was cool lol

  17. Sounds like she was being a A**. Yes what your daughter done was normal and fine. Some people have nothing better to do with there life other than be hateful. Don't worry about it. Some people are ignorant.
