My teacher wrote this sentence in his entry in my yearbook:

"Your sense of humor proives great enjoyment some days and great sadness others."

Now I'm confused.

Any ideas?

  1. Humor is used to help break tensions, it is used  to bring joy to people, sometimes it is used to hurt people and sometimes it is used to avoid scary situations.

I think what your teacher meant was that on some days, the humor you bring makes her/him laugh along with you and along with others.  Some days, maybe you make jokes to get out of situations or maybe one or two times something you said was directed at someone and what you said may have been hurtful.

Or perhaps you made jokes to cover up the fact that you didn't know the real answer or didn't understand the subject well enough.  Mocking what you don't understand can be funny, but when it is seen for what it is (avoiding the subject) that can be sad.

The only real way to know is to ask your teacher directly.  But understand that when you hear the answer it will be so you learn about yourself.  Take the answer in stride knowing it can make you become a better person - not make you lose the sense of humor.

  2. Have you tried just asking?  Teachers are bombarded with having to sign many yearbooks quickly.  Perhaps she thought she was signing someone else's yearbook.  If there is no doubt the message is for you, just ask her.  While it may read confusing, I'm sure that there is more to it and he explanation may ease your worries.

  3. Meaning your sense of humor is pleasing for some days, but other days, it probably gets on her nerves. You're probably the class clown or something.

  4. I think she finds you a funny sort of person, perhaps she's saddened by the fact that your a bit of a clown and she saw more potential in you?

I'm just guessing as we don't really know you.

  5. Maybe you are never serious.
