I don't know what it means but have you ever thought about spelling it Safya just to be a little different?  By the way I do like it.  It is unusual but it has a nice ring to it.

I think it is a beautiful name, though I do like Sofia and Sophie better.  I like the previous poster's suggestion to spell it Safya.  But I like it!

well i can only say i have a lot of arabic friends, in fact egyptian friends, and several of them have the same name safia, just like there are a lot of mohameds.
