it looks a little like the Hoff after a night out with Mel Gibson

    a

  4. no clue its pretty though.

  5. It's possible that it's pop-eye but it looks more like it hit a rock and just bruised it.

  6. You've obviously noted the pop eye, but it also looks like hemorrhaging, which could be from the same bacterium, or from a secondary infection of Aeromonas bacteria.  I would treat with a combination of Maracyn and Maracyn 2, or possibly tetracycline based medications like Maracyn TC, TC Capsules, or other VERY broad spectrum antibiotics.  Salt will have little affect, as will other preventatives like Melafix, Pimafix, or Bettafix.  Keep the water warm and clean, and continue medicating as directed.  Remove any activated carbon from the filter, and if using a tetracycline or minocycline based medication, keep the tank dark, as these drugs degrade with exposure to light.

  7. yeah that happened to my gold fish before too. there's nothing you can really do about it.

  8. the pictures are from 2 different angles and don't help at all the red I see could just be a reflection from the boat in the second picture

for the most part I don't really see anything but you can see more than I can rather than play wait and see go ahead and treat it for popeye the sooner you catch it the easier it is to treat it lets not wait till we are at the point of no return sometimes it is better to be safe rather than sorry

  9. Please see link below for tons of info!  Good luck!

Your fish is most likely suffering from pop-eye, which is also known by the medical term, exophthalmus. Humans with an over active thyroid can have exophthalmus and if you remember Marty Feldman from the movie “Young Frankenstein”… he had pop-eye! Some fish, such as the Black Moor, normally have eyes that are bulging or “telescoping” and this is not considered to be pop-eye. Pop-eye is not a disease itself, but rather it is a sign of some underlying problem.

  10. a male betta fish

  11. a betta fish with red eyes

  12. It looks like a betta fish with a big eye.

It is probably a form of pop-eye, but could possibly be an internal fungus or parasite. The symptoms for these problems can vary and are usually mis-diagnosed as something less serious.

Pictures online are not always the expected. Yes, pop-eye generally looks differently, but can cause irritation if small.

  14. "Your fish sounds like he has popeye, a bacterial infection brought on by bad water quality. Since you change the water weekly, maybe the tank is too small and ammonia (toxic waste) is building up too quickly. I reccommend at least a 4 litre (1 US gallon) tank for a betta.

As for treating the current problem, get a good broad-spectrum fish medication. I recommend Wardley's Promethyasul but any good quality brand may help.

Try adding some AQUARIUM salt to his water - not table salt, it can kill! There are many good brands, most of which will be available at your local fish store. Keep his water clean, change it twice weekly now. Keep him warm - 24-27 degrees celcius (78-82 fahrenheit)".
