i think it´s out of the movie Das Boot (the boat) submarine movie by wolfgang petersen.

it´s a conversation between the commander of the submarine (unterseeboot = u-boot) and one of his subordinates. if i remember right there was an problem with the u-boot and the chief helmsman (navigator) worked on it. commander meets him and asks: na, kriechbaum? (friendly question means way of: how is it going, kriechbaum?) answer is: wird klappen, herr kaleu, ganz sicher! (means: It will work, herr kaleu. definitely!)

kriechbaum is the name of the team-member (navigator)

herr kaleu is the shortcut for KA-pitänLEU-tnant.

kapitänleutnant is a rank in the german navy.

compared to army and air-force it´s hauptmann.

compared to u.s. army and air-force its captain.

the rank above and the shortcut kaleu is still in use in germans navy.

in times of battle or close comradeship it was and is often that leaders call their subordinates only by name without rank. unthinkable the other way ;-).
