What does this mean? latitude and longitude question.?

the latitude and longitude of rockefeller center says:

73deg.45'31"North, 73deg.58'45"

what does that mean? (deg. is the degree symbol)

  1. the lines going u the prime meridan are the north and the lines going with the equator are the other ones now just find where they meet on a globe and u will se new york city


  2. 73deg.45'31"North means 73° 45 minutes 31 seconds North of the equator - this is just like a clock. Each degree is divided into 60 minutes and each minute is divided into 60 seconds - just like on a clock 1 hour has 60 minutes and each minute has 60 seconds. - 1 degree has 60 minutes and each minute has 60 seconds. So, this place is found at those latitude numbers North of the Equator. The other set of numbers are the longitude numbers and they work just like the latitude ones except it is West or East of the Prime Meridian. The equator cuts the earth into a northern half and a southern half and the Prime Meridian cuts it into a western half and an eastern half.
