What does "via" mean?

like for example when people say

"The meeting will be at 11:00am, you can reach Mr.John Smith "Via" email or "Via" phone at 1-553-555-0123

Thank you for your help; the question again is "What does Via mean?

oh and why do they use that term "Via"

    it's just a word in the English language.

    It's the means used.

    For example...Send this letter via air mail. It means send it by way of air.

I think it could mean ..  by, and passing through,my guess is passing through.I know when people are  traveling and the plane/train which they are using is not a straight journey it will say "VIA". like london to germany via Belgium. which means were stopping at Belgium briefly but germany is our final destination.
