What does this mean (sign on a hotel)?

A sign was on a hotel room door and it said, "No spikes beyond this point" and it was blue. What are spikes? And if it helps, it was a hotel in Mexico...

it's probably referring to shoes of some sort.

Other then that I have no idea.

no golf shoes. You were prob. at a hotel that also had a golf course on the premises and people wear their golf shoes from the hotel to the course and vice versa. But, that's what it means. No golf shoes...golf shoes have little spikes that mess up the flooring.
