  1. I think you're trying to figure out what 'in vain' means.

to do something 'in vain' means that it's useless.  Like if you put on a beauty pageant for the blind, then putting on makeup or a fancy dress would be in vain--completely pointless.

With that said, it means that you shouldn't just throw his name out casually.  His name should mean something to you and if you routinely say things like 'oh my god' you cheapen his name.

  2. No cursing, no casual use of His name, no making false promises in His name.

  3. Using God's name in vain, like using the name of Jesus as an expression or disgust. Swearing by God's name. We should always respect God's name and Jesus.

  4. don't say Jesus Christ when you are mad and dont say God---- at all mad or not.

  5. You should not use the name of God for vanity or showing off. Doing something in vain means to do it  for no purpose. Saying I love God but living an ungodly life. When people say "I swear to God "and they have no intent on doing right or they are lying.

  6. Looking for a best answer for a paper?

  7. Don't do that blaspheme stuff; don't say OMG.

You may also ponder if 'holy cow' is blasphemy cos it's against the hindu religion.

Of course if you're a-theist like me nothing is sacred.

  8. it means u cant say His name if u r not praying...like in daily routine

  9. you shouldnt say "Jesus Christ....i dont know what the third commandment means to me"....me personally...i pretend like the 3 one is not there

  10. I think it is better if you do your own home work.

I personally say that it is about saying all the time like " ohh my God" etc

  11. Don't use the name of God casually or carelessly. Treat it with respect.

  12. The original Hebrew word of the Third Commandment, most-often translated into English as vain is (pronounced) shawv. It has two literal meanings; one means evil, the other means to lie.

The first, vain meaning evil, is very commonly seen, or rather heard, when people use God's Name, or the Son of God's Name, as a form of vulgar expression, or profanity - which are forms of blasphemy. People who do this may think that only themselves, or the people who they are talking to, know that they're doing it, but God can hear them every time they blaspheme Him or His Son.

The other meaning would be to use His name in a lying manner like falsly swearing an oath something like---"I swear to God never to do that again". A person is never to use God's name in such a manner.

      I hope that helps.

  13. this mean don't say Oh My God, or anything along that line

  14. "What does the 3rd commandment mean to you.?"

    Not much.

  15. I never really don't use God's name in vain when I speak but its common in everyday language now. What it means to me is that God's name can never be compared to a situation because people use it for negative connotation. When God is good. All the time.

  16. Wow...you don't even know what you think about your own religion. You have to ask on a public forum in order to understand your own opinion!

    Wow, just WOW

  17. For me it means to use or think of God in a casual and unimportant sense.

I was raised in a home where God's name was only spoken when it was taken in vain, and to this day I have a terrible time with saying "Oh my God!" It's usually right after it slips from my mouth do I even realize that's what I said.

I feel guilty and ask God to forgive and every time He tells me He already has, but I know it hurts Him when I do it.

  18. Shouldn't you come up with the answer yourself?

But for the record, I don't really care about the 3rd commandment.

  19. You should not say "Oh my God" just for the heck of it.

You should not say God unless you use His name for

    a good purpose

    Vain

1: having no real value : idle, worthless <vain pretensions>

2: marked by futility or ineffectualness : unsuccessful, useless <vain efforts to escape>

    3archaic : foolish, silly

4: having or showing undue or excessive pride in one's appearance or achievements

Good question Pink I hope this helps you.

    May God bless You

  20. It means don't command God to dam anything.
