What does this patch mean?

Today on the train in NYC I saw 2 people wearing a black round patch and in the center was a capital "T" with a "w" directly behind the "T". Is this a group or a crazy cult or something?

A lot of baseball teams have logos that look like that, e.g. the New York Yankes (N on top of Y), the St. Louis Cardinals (S on top of L), the Los Angeles Dodgers (L on top of A), and so forth.  As a result, a lot of local sports teams have logos that look like that.  I'd guess that that's what it is; I think a cult would be pretty unlikely unless there's something about them you're not telling us.  I would like to see if anyone can actually identify the badge, though.
