What does this phrase mean "Up here for thinking... down there for dancing" ??

What does that above phase mean?

It has always confused me a little.

  1. Not being really knowledgeable on this quotation, I would answer that it is probably a conservative religious saying with a meaning of:

    If you are only thinking about dancing, you will arrive in heaven, but if you are actually dancing, you will end up in h**l.

    Nope, this is not something I would subscribe to.  I've religion, but not quite as conservative.

  3. I think it's saying, "Use your head for thinking, your heart for dancing." (Your head being "up here" and your heart being "down there.") After all, when you start confusing your thoughts and your feelings, things get messy. It's saying you need to use what you have for what it's actually meant for. (a.k.a. don't make a decision based on purely emotion, and don't deny the way you feel because it doesn't abide by logic.) Okay, hope that helps. =)
