Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.

His house is in the village, though;

He will not see me stopping here

To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it's q***r

To stop without a farmhouse near

Between the woods and frozen lake

The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake

To ask if there's some mistake.

The only other sound's the sweep

Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,

But I have promises to keep,

And miles to go before I sleep,

And miles to go before I sleep.

this is by robert frost......what is the inner meaning of this poem....what does he want to tell his readers ???

plz help.... :(

  1. it seems like he's talking about a goal or something he wants to obstacle

  2. Winter is the season that means white hair (like the snow) and the ending of life when the body is getting ready for its eternal rest so although the old gentleman realizes his time of departure is near he's not really ready because there are still things he wants to accomplish. A peaceful, deep quietness is coming upon him and he is very weary but he wants to hang on for a little while longer because as the author says "He has miles to go before he sleeps".

This is a very beautiful and gentle poem by Robert Frost. It is a classic.

  3. It's about life's journey and stopping to enjoy bits of life before going to the final end (the final resting place - where one sleeps for eternity i.e. death).

  4. He is riding to a place he needs to be, during a snow storm, and stops because he is attracted to the view of a lonely wood, his horse is surprised at the stop, especially as there isn't a house nearby for them to take shelter, and because of previous commitments, he carries on with his journey.

It's a very nice poem, I had forgotten it. Thanks for reminding me about it again
