"The Rose That Grew From Concrete" by Tupac

Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete?

Proving nature's law is wrong it learned to walk with out having feet.

Funny it seems, but by keeping it's dreams, it learned to breathe fresh air.

Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else ever cared.

  2. This poem talks about "something beautiful growing from something so barren". This poem talks in metaphors, so I'm going to explain it in that way and put the representations in parenthesis.

Basically, what I get from the poem is that usually, you'd expect weeds (bad people) to grow from cracks in the concrete sidewalk (bad neighborhoods/influences), right? But you get a ROSE (good person, pristine goodness, sweetness) growing out of the concrete (bad neighborhoods). No one watered/fertilized (cared) about the rose (the person who grew up in a bad neighborhood). That rose keep growing into a beautiful/refined rose (good person despite living in a bad neighborhood).

So, the theme is that not all people who grew up in "bad neighborhoods" will be bad or turn into gangsters. They have dreams that they want to achieve, just like anyone else living in any other place.

I hope I'm making sense to you. ^_^'
