I have a packet about the scarlet letter but I don't understand this assignment.

"As Hawthorne reveals the intricate workings of his characters minds he creates strong imagees as well. CHoose an image that you can recall or skim Chapter 9 through 15 to find an image that strikes you as powerful. The image may involve a characters' physcial appearance, an action, or the setting of a scene. Imagine that you are commissioning an artist to render the image. Make a diagram to explain how you want the images to be created and in what medium. For example, Pearl might best be represented by a scultpure that implies motion. Chillingworth, on the other hand, mnight best be rendered in a dark oil painting.

What do they mean by diagram?

  1. I would say it would be either a graphic organizer describing the image that you saw when reading a certain portion of the book or a sketch of the image that you saw. I am working on hw right now too, GOOD LUCK =)

  2. make a DIAGRAM to explain. basically a layout how you want things to look. diagram could be a chart, graph, instructions, picture. basically instrustions, since she said to make it to explain.

  3. I think "diagram" might not have been the best word choice, although I can't think of a better one. The question seems to be asking that you do an extremely rough sketch showing approximate layout of a two-dimensional piece (stick figures is fine) and all objects in the background, clearly showing the setting, or a representational drawing from two different angles for a three-dimensional work like a sculpture.

They're not seeking your best artistic efforts, although if you care to draw a bit, that would be better.
