that is not the full quotation but what does this part mean.

like to you, i really don't know what it means .

My interpretation, literature is one place in human society where you can write or read about topics that can excite you to the highest level of mental ecstasy or bring you down to the very pits of society. Although there is a certain amount of censorship here in America, and it depends on what group is offended, you can write about anything.
