It was the epitaph on a tombstone. It was for a man who lived in Ancient Greece.

It went:

As I've said 10,000 times before, though dead, I say again. Drink up, and never mind the stains. No one wears anything for long, except this coat of dust.

What is the purpose of this quote; what is the undermeaning here?

    Life is short, enjoy yourself.

    Don't worry about small irritations, they won't matter once you're dead.

    It is a hedonistic approach to living  which is  a philosophy that the highest good is pleasure -.A hedonist is properly the follower of any ethical system in which the highest good is some sort of pleasure. Epicurius was the leading proponent of this and  identifiesit as a virtue.

    The term carpe diem - seize the day (live for today) is the motto of hedonistic living.


  2. It means life is short and death lasts forever (no one wears anything for long - except this coat of dust).  One should embrace the joys of life without the regrets or how it makes you look. (drink up and never mind the stains)
