It means that a poet is not fulfilled in the completion, but in the creation process.  For a poet it isn't about accomplishing, but forming, making, materializing.  A poet loves letters and words, thought pictures and naked emotion--the elements.  For them it isn't so much about what comes from the outside in, as what comes from the inside out.
