"Don't underestimate the value of Doing Nothing, of just going along, listening

to all the things you can't hear, and not bothering."

~A.A. Milne

I get the first part but the ending...not so much? Can anyone explain it to me? I'm having a brain block on this one...

  1. Hmmm...don't underestimate the value-which means estimate the value or know it's value.Going along-following behind other's examples.Listening to all the things you can't hear-listening but not receiving the message. Not bothering-to not care...so basicly it means to not underestimate the value of adventure and to not let your life pass by. So it's saying here that we should all do something in our lives instead of sitting around.

    Hope this helped!!!!!!!!!

  2. I think that the one must appreciate his moments of silence, contemplation and just thinking about the beauty beyond his limited sensations!!! He is an artist who feels and invites us to feel what we cannot see or hear, it is not a wasted time that which u pass doing so!

    I think!!

  3. When he says, "not bothering," he means not stressing, not worrying, not making any effort to accomplish anything, just experiencing the moment.  When he says "listening

to all the things you can't hear," he 's probably talking about just listening to silence, appreciating stillness.  Or he could be suggesting that it's a pleasure to walk through a meadow or a wood listening to all the little sounds that you normally might not hear -- insect and bird noises, the faint murmur of a brook, the soft sound of wind through grass -- sounds that you might sometimes tend to ignore or tune out.

  4. I love A.A. Milne.  I love Winnie the Pooh!  Thinking as Winnie the Pooh would think....think, think, think!  Doing nothing is probably the hardest thing for most humans to do.  But for a bear, a Winnie-the-pooh bear, doing nothing is the easiest thing in the world to do!  Or not do.

When you listen to all the things you can't hear, you'd be amazed at all the things you've missed.  We can't hear a pin drop, but to contemplate the silence of a quiet moment is magical!

And when all is said and done "not bothering" is quite possibly the best thing Winnie-the-pooh is best at.  On his worst days, he will not be annoyed or irritated by his situation (like being stuck in Rabbit's hole, or tied to a balloon pretending to be a cloud).  He is "not bother[ed]" by things that go astray and so his life is filled with interesting adventures.  I LOVE WINNIE-THE-POOH!!!!
