  1. I think it means you need to quit obsessing over yourself long enough to see how others are reacting to what you are doing or saying..

    or...

it means you are being self centered and not thinking about the others around you

  2. I believe that it is an insult and a warning to a narcissistic, selfish person that while that person is admiring his/her image and victories won by manipulation, that that person will leave damaged people behind who will be around, figuratively or literally, to remind that person of the evils of his/her manipulation and vanity.

The quote was uttered by Gabriella Montez (played by Vanessa Anne Hudgens) to Sharpay Evans (played by Ashley Tisdale) in a second season episode of the television show "High School Musical" (2007).

Sharpay is a physically attractive, rich, spoiled daughter of the founders of a country club.  There is a show each summer at the club with winners selected.  Sharpay attempts to take Gabrielle's boyfriend, Troy, for herself while manipulating the show and the jobs of Gabriella's friends.

Gabriella confronts Sharpay about her manipulative games.  Sharpay replies by saying, "You don't like the fact that I won."  Gabriella says, "What's the prize?" Rhetorically referring to her boyfriend, Troy, and to the Stardazzled award.

Gabriella then says, "You have to go through all this just to get either one? [Troy and Stardazzled award] No, thanks Sharpay. You're very good at a game that I don't want to play. So, I'm done here. But you better step away from the mirror long enough to check the damage that will always be right behind you."

  3. It means that in life you make bad decision that carry consequences and damages that you keep as a scare for the rest of your life. By stepping away from the mirror you get a bigger view of it all as oppose to being focused on only one aspect of what you are looking in the mirror for. ie: instead of looking at your eye, step away and look at your entire body ... now switch the body with your entire personality and life in general ... what do you see?

It is a personal assessment of your and your life.

  4. I would say it means that you should stop focussing on the external and narcissistic (vain)  aspect of things and look at what the real life can threaten you with.

  5. My guess would be that the person is being encouraged to look away from their own needs and wants to see what is going on with those around them and in the bigger world.

  6. Instead of focusing on yourself all the time, be aware of the effect you have on others.  Your top priority in your life shouldn't always be yourself.
