What does this quote mean from the book A Prayer for Owen Meany mean?

“And how can I not think of Owen- when I read Paul’s letter to the Galatians , that part where Paul says, “And I was still not known by sight to the churches of Christ in Judea; they only heard it said, ‘He who once persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.’ And they glorified God because of me.’ How well I know that feeling! I trust in God because of Owen Meany.”

Is it important ?

  1. I believe this is just another passage that refers to how Owen Meany is "an instrument of God."

Remember when Mr. Meany told Johnny Wheelwright that Owen was born by a virgin and how Mrs. Meany was constantly screaming in the background, "Stop! They never, never, never, believe you" (Chapter 9)? That basically proved that Owen Meany was god's instrument; however, no one believed in any other virgin birth except that of Jesus Christ. You can compare this doubt to Paul's statement when he says, "And I was still not known by sight to the churches of Christ in Judea."

    Just a comparison.
