What does this quote mean? "A person is a person through other persons."?

I have to write a critical lens using this quote, "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen and a short story from the following list:

"Sonny's Blues" by James Baldwin

"A+P" by John Updike

"A Good Man is Hard to Find" by Flannely O'Conner

Yeah and I was going to use the thesis that people live through other people and that would work for Mrs. Bennet and her daughters, but I can't match it to any of the short stories, and I can't think of another interpretation of the quote, so I'm kind of stuck here. Any help?
