1 Peter 4:12

" Beloved, do not think that the fiery ordeal among you, coming to you for a trial, is strange, as it it were a strange thing happening to you"

Are we those who always rebuke anything that comes to try us? Is this our first response? Or are we equipped with the truth in this verse.

Ty for taking the time to honestly respond

Love in Christ

  1. Suffering is the teacher.  Through pain and trials we grow and become stronger.

The verse is pretty straightforward -- don't be perplexed or whiny about ordeals and such.

  2. As a christian, you will encounter persecution in some way. that's because the doctrine of christ's death, burial, and resurrection is so contrary to the way of the world. so... understanding that, it shouldn't be "as if it were a strange thing happening to you".

  3. I am a partaker of Christ's sufferings.  I must eat His flesh and drink His blood and that is a lot more than communion.  And I count all of these trials as joy.  for the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God:  and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God  And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?  Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to Him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

    Have a blessed day!

  4. Question:Are we those who always rebuke anything that comes to try us? Is this our first response? Or are we equipped with the truth in this verse.

Answer: We must put on the whole armour of God stand up IN the fight. Praise God.

Ephesians 6:11 - Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Ephesians 6:13 - Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

    1 Peter 4

1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. 3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: 4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: 5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead. 6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. 7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. 8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. 9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging. 10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. 14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. 16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. 17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? 19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

  5. If we did not "have Faith" in the first place, then, there would be no good reason for "trials and tribulations to occur?" But, the fact that we "Do" is also a constant reminder that we are children of the Most High God, and therefore, to "endure" as such. Therefore, as in verse "1" has said, to "arm ourselves with a same mind" and to also "Glorify God in it" Amen.... "Diamond"

  6. This was originally written to comfort those who were going through extreme persecution, such as being thrown into the Colosseum in Rome. We have no clue these days what that kind of trial is like.

When difficulties come our way, we should do as a soldier does... stand up, put up your shield with sword ready.

  7. It's an interesting verse:). Many times in my human nature, when there is a fiery ordeal, my first reaction is to try to escape from it or complain about it. Yet it is those fiery ordeals that purify us and even strengthen us in the Lord. Gold and silver are purified by fire. The fire burns away all that is unclean and not of the Lord and what will be left after such an ordeal will be what is of the Lord. It is even such heat and pressure that forms precious stones. Without such heat and pressure, there can be no transformation. On one hand it's not easy and our natural man always resists it, but the Lord knows our limits and the Lord is always there to comfort us and supply us in our ordeals.

Even as I am going through an ordeal right now, many times I just want to escape from it, I just want to give up. But inwardly I dont want to escape from it and lose the Lord's presence. It is a suffering, but the Lord will comfort me and take me through. And in the end, the fire will consume whatever is not of the Lord and I will have peace with the Lord that I chose the Lord's will.

  8. It was Peter who said "But the end of all things is at hand."  So, clearly he didn't always know what the h**l he was talking about.

  9. it is  saying we can expect trials.

  10. Not sure where you are going with the rebuke thing. The verse is the first in a section regarding the persecution we as Christians will suffer for being Christian. I suggest you read the rest of the verses as they show you what the meaning is.

    1 Peter 4: 12-16 (NIV)

12Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. 13But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. 14If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. 15If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. 16However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name

Jesus said if the world hated him then how much more would they hate those who followed him.

  11. I think it means that we shouldn't be surprised when trials come our way, and when we are persecuted for our faith, because Christ Himself suffered persecution, and He said that if we suffer persecution, it is because He did first.

  12. don't be suprised when trouble comes your way, but lean on God

  13. You are correct that many are in automatic "rebuke" response to anything that is difficult.

But didn't Jesus tell us to take up our crosses daily? It doesn't get more difficult than that.

Your verse is correct, trials of many sorts will come. We will be tried and tested.

  14. I am not real pleased with this translation. It does not seem to express itself clearly.

"12Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. 13But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed." NIV

Sounds like a m*******t to me.

ADD: It is not as much fun as the Aussie Bible though.

    Message for Mary (Luke 1:26-38)

When Libby was six months gone, God sent the same angel'this Gabriel bloke'to a backblocks town called Nazareth, in the Galilee shire, to a nice young girl who was engaged to the local carpenter, Joe Davidson. Her name was Mary.

The angel said to her, 'G'day Mary. You are a pretty special sheila. God has his eye on you.'

  15. It means to me that persecution will happen sometimes to Christ's followers.

    May God Bless you.

  16. Peter is likening suffering for righteousness to a burning, when he says that to his fellow Christians.

If one keeps God’s commandments as a Christian, it is impossible to escape persecution, for “all those desiring to live with godly devotion in association with Christ Jesus will also be persecuted.” (2Timothy 3:12) But true Christians are able to endure all manner of wicked persecution and still maintain a happy attitude free of malice and hatred of the persecutors. This is because they understand the issues involved—the source of the persecution and why it is permitted. Instead of being puzzled and worried over such experiences, they rejoice to share with Christ in the test of loyalty under persecution.—1Peter 4:12-14.

  17. the bible is just another book written by some author, but some people say that "God" wrote it, thats just horse ****, i dont see people worshipping Stephen King his books are kick ***.

  18. Amen sister! Fellow Christians learn how to be cool in Christ!  Don't worry, He will take care of everything!  Praise Jesus!

P.S.  Don't bring yourself down to the level of mockers! Your are kings and priests!!!
