  1. it's not showing on here. it just shows a square

  2. in japanese its part of the word 仲間 (naka ma)

which means sort of like friend, or people that are close to you, fellowship, kin,  personal relations (its hard to explain when there isnt really an english word for it)

the  kanji 仲 came from two kanjis/chinese character  that were put together

the one on the left is  Ã¤ÂºÂº (hito) which means person, that i guess sort of changed shape with time when it was put together into this character.

and the one on the right is 中 (naka, chuu) which means middle, center. and those two were put together to form that one kanji/chinese character 仲 (also read naka or chuu in japanese)  (if u think about it its like ppl 人 that are the center of u 中, so ppl that are meaningful to you)

(http://www.kanjinetworks.com/tnetwork/TO... i found some of the info on it here)

im not sure if its the same as in chinese though, cuz japanese and chinese read it differently, but it usually have around the same meaning.

im no kanji/chinese character expert, but i hope i helped
