  1. A quick survey of some of the questions posed on yahoo answers should tell you, not much.

Public Broadcasting and its children's programing, however, is the saving grace and only redeeming quality of mainstream media. Could you imagine what this country would be like without Fred Rogers? Shambles!

  2. When I was a kid, I wasn't interested in learning what the media had in store for me:  I was more in tune to simple programs such as Sesame Street, and Mister Rogers Neighborhood.   Parents in the 70's really didn't encourage the media to do their work.  The emphasis was placed in the school systems.  So why has the media become a strong teaching tool in todays society?  Do you mean, what does todays media teach our parents?

  3. Live only for the moment.

  4. Yeah that's a good question.  For one thing I think kids these days are exposed to a lot more information with or without computers.  There are tv channels that have the news on from 4.30pm, even the ABC has BTN (Behind The News) which fills the kids in on most news stories in an easy to understand format. Listening to the radio on the way to and from school you get news broadcasts.  So to answer your question I think I will answer in the positive.  Our kids are growing up in a generation where information is their key to growing up and understanding the world around them.  I do think it's very important that adults in their lives take a roll in teaching them the difference about correct information and advertising, propaganda etc.  It is a way to teach them to think for themselves and make up their own mind, after research about things. I remember Neil Armstrong walking on the moon when I was 9 but my 10 year old daughter is even asking about our Government, Iraq war, environment issues etc.  I'm not saying I want it to be this way but here it is. I just try and give her as much of a childhood that is possible these days.

  5. I"ll answer by stating a situation that happend to me quite a while back....after serving 25 yr.s or so in the media I was offered  position teaching locally to high school students...after reviewing the study material...I "so" totally refused the post.  "out of touch" dosent even define the content!!

  6. It teaches them exactly what they learn in school, to be accepting of all things, to be rewarded for things you haven't accomplished and say what you want and hope you are not questioned about it.
