I eat tofu quite a bit but I don't know what it tastes like. I mean I understand it kind of absorbs the taste of what you're eating it with, but can anyone describe what it actually tastes like?

  1. raw tofu - no good

Chinese and Vietnamese tofu - the bomb

  2. It can taste alot of different ways because 1. it can have so many different textures (thats why its used to make meat substitutes, they just make a more dense tofu) 2. it soaks up flavors

if you want to taste good tofu that isnt too weird, just get some tofu stirfry at a Chinese takeout place.

  3. By itself it tastes very plain.

But it's very versatile. I've seen tofu in savoury pies and in stir-frys. Silken tofu works as an eggs replacer in cookies, cakes, pies and chocolate mousse.

I love making spinach and "ricotta" pastries (mostly made of tofu) and raspberry-chocolate mousse pie.

  4. just like eating sogggy boogers.

  5. it tastes like nothing really, its a plain, bland taste with a kind of "spongy" texture. i dont really like it, but it tastes okay with grilled vegetables since it takes on that flavor.

  6. Unmodified, it tastes like fresh soybean sprouts. It's a light, slightly lettuce-ish flavor. Some people like this taste, some don't. I sometimes eat tofu fresh, but usually I like to marinate it in soy sauce and fry it with garlic and onions. Good stuff, that.

  7. Add fine sawdust to unflavored jello and there you go.

  8. Although I am a tofu lover myself and I cook alot of tofu and enjoy experimenting with it in the kitchen, Im still not certain about what it tastes like. It's pretty bland but not gross. All I know is it pretty absorbs the same taste on what you incorporate with it or put together with it. But I still love tofu, no matter what!

  9. Tofu itself has no taste. But when made into something it transforms into that taste. (i.e desserts, tofu chicken, tofu steak, tofu fillets, tofu cutlets, bbqed tofu, stir-fried tofu, tofu fries, tofu fish, tofu scramble, tofu burgers, tofu cheese, tofu yogurt and ice cream, etc)

  10. I eat raw tofu all the time. It mostly just tastes like soy, but that's kind of hard to explain if you've never had soy before.

  11. it tastes like .....blurghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

  12. I'm not sure it has a taste--I have eaten it, mixed in other things with flavor.

While we're on the subject, tofu is not a health-food item. Only the fermented soy products are good for us. Those are: miso, tempeh and natto.
