What does trolling mean?

I dont understand what it means when someone says someone is "trolling" on the internet? had never heard anyone say it before

Remember the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff?  There was a Troll, a short ugly monster who takes tolls to cross a bridge.

To troll mean to snag or catch a traveler. This term transferred to sport fishing but the fish is "stationary" and you are traveling.  The term trolling transferred to going to bars to catch the not so pretty (and unsuspecting) "dates" by buying them one or two drinks to push the already buzzing girls into passive and cooperative drunks.

On the Internet, trolling is Phishing for dates.  Many not so attractive people like to flirt in complete anonymity and eventually agree to meet for s*x.

Filipinas often troll the net to find a guy, and ultimately a green card.

If you troll for fish, you have your fishing lines in the water while your boat chugs slowly through the water.  However, I think the word has become more widely used to mean anytime you are looking to catch something--e.g. a date, an idea, a job, etc.
