  1. I am not sure.  I think they use it in different ways in the show.

ie.  See you in a few mikes, I have also heard them say Oscar Mike several times, (not sure but I think they mean on the move)

  2. As most of the correct responders have said, Mike=Minutes. Mike of course, being from the phonetic alphabet. Phonetic alphabet is a GREAT thing when you have little kids and you want to say something and you dont want the children to know. Husband and I have been using mikes in our convos from the beginning, and the rest of the phonetic alphabet too.

Anyway, it means minutes. (unless you are an 88mike, and then that is just his MOS rather than 88 minutes lol)

  3. "Mike" is the phonetic alphabet standard for the letter M.  Depending on context, I guess a "mike" could be a meter, a minute, or a mile.

  4. The Italion dude is correct. Mikes means minutes. Whoever gave him a thumbs down is way wrong.

all others that say other are idiots.

I watched generation kill and that is what they refer to.

For others that say Mike is the phonetic alphabet. as fare as what Mike means as in M, they are correct, however in watching the show and being in the military, in what they refer Mikes as is for sure Minutes, which is as well known amongst the military.

Whoever gave me a thumbs down you all know you are wrong and the answer is correct. Mike is the phonetic alphabet. Mikes plural is Minutes. Your all stupid.

  5. mike is part of a phonetic alphabet, where words represent letters (a alpha, b bravo, c charlie, d delta, etc.. The odd ones are at the end. November oscar tango, x-ray, zulu) This was developed with the widespread use of the radio in an effort to reduce miscommunication. mike refers to the letter M. even away from communications, some military members manage to put in into their regular speech out of habit. some are a little obscure. for instance, Bravo Zulu basically means good job, although I have no idea where it came from

  6. Your question is incoherent.

  7. mikes in military lingo means minutes. like see you in a few mikes.

  8. IN ARMED FORCE

PHONETIC ALPHABETICALS  USED AS CODES.. AND

ALSO USED  TO SPECIFY  TIME ZONES

    EG

    A ---- ALPHA

    B ---- BRAVO

    C ----CHARLIE

    M ---MIKE

    Z ---ZULU

internationl standard time UTC OR GMT

    ZULU MEANS

    Z--ZULU  =    UTC+0

                       +00:00

    A----ALPHA = UTC+1

    ie                 +01:00

    B---BRAVO= UTC+2

    ie                +02:00

    M--MIKE   =  UTC+12

    ie                 +12:00

  9. I spent 8 yrs in the Marines and Saying the word in a sentence of "In a few Mikes" is minutes.  A few clicks, is miles.  Tango Charlie is Time Check, Foxtrot Yankee is F#@K You, and so on and so on.....I am Charlie Lima Sierra.

  10. The word "Mike" means the letter "M".

And "Generation Kill" is to real military life what "Sesame Street" is to reality.
