  1. RMS is root mean square, the continual power rating of the amplifier. This is the only power rating to be concerned with, as it is the true power of the unit. Many companies try to confuse the public with other ratings, such as peak, music power, or [ipp] instantaneous peak. On a clear day the true power is 50-75% less than they state it is. Using an underpowered amplifier is the worst thing that can happen to a speaker. When using an 8 ohm speaker make sure that the rms for your amp is rated at 8 ohms and not 4 ohms. An amp rated at 200 rms at 4 ohms will deliver 100 watts into an 8 ohm load so care must be taken with these ratings

  2. stands for watts root mean squared.  it's the average amount of power the speakers can handle over a length of time.

  3. RMS Wattage. (Root Mean Squared - or steady power) How much steady power the speaker can handle as opposed to peak power handling which would be much higher.
