  1. x & y often represent a 2-dimensional system of coordinates (3-dimensional if you add z)

x is the horisontal coordinate, y is the vertical coordinate. Any point in this system of coordinates can be specified by xy or yx.

You will commonly see this system in various graphs and charts.

  2. -x axis n y axis....

    -also refer to unknown..

  3. It's not only in physics. x and y represent two coordinates, x being the horizontal and y the vertical

  4. In Physics, "x" is an unknown or is the horizontal axis on a graph.  "y" is a vertical axis on a graph.

In Biology "x" is female and "y" is male.

  5. x is the  bottom line and y is the top line. if you do a graph. x = horizontal and y = vertical.
