  1. cross country.

    its competitive distance running.

  2. XC is cross country. It's long distance running that is not confined to a track. XC races take place in trails although sometimes a track is involved. I once went to a XC race and it involved running two laps on the track and then going off into a trail.

An XC race is a 5k or 3.1 miles. So when there's a %k for cancer or something like that, it's really a XC race.

XC is more of a team sport than track because XC runners depend on their running "pack" (group of people they run with) for support during the race.

XC season is usually during the fall and winter months.

Although XC and track are different they are not completely alienated from one another. I for one run XC and participate as a sprinter in my high school.

  3. yep the x is for cross since it makes a cross, then the c is for country. If someone you know is saying xc for track then tell them to stop immeadiately because xc and track are two different sports completely

  4. xc stands for cross country, it is just an abbreviation. The x stands for cross b/c it is like a cross and the c stands for country. People use it with running long distances. The cross country team at school runs 3.1 miles in a race. You would not use it for track.
