I can exercise this dog for 1 to 2 hours a day. I can buy him some agility course. I am very active. I am willing to play with him. I can buy him toys.

But the only problem is that I am going to school for 5 hours but i think i will just buy him a small tv so he could hear something while i am gone, so he wont be bored.

i HAVE A BIG BACKYARD

My top choices of dogs are Labrador Retriever, Siberian Husky, German Shepherd, Italian Greyhound, Jack Russell Terrier, beagle, Canaan dog and boxer

But if you have another kind of dog that you think will fit me just tell me and i will consider it.

  1. Australian Cattle Dog is active and sort of looks like a shepherd

  2. You have quite a variety of choices.  First you need to think about your climate.  If you live in FL, forget the Husky, if in MI, forget the Italian Greyhound (they break easily by the way).

Next, do you want to work with a dog that wants to please you or itself? Australian Shep., Border Collies, Labs, most German Sheps & Boxers will want to try to make you happy once they understand what you want.

The Canaan Dog, if you can find one, JRT and Beagle will find what you want completely irrelevant... unless you are holding food.

You've also got a great range in sizes. Where do you live? Do you rent, if so, go smaller, you're more likely to be able to move if needed.

Do you plan to have kids? Some get a long better with small children then others.  The JRT & Husky are the most likely to be seriously destructive.

5 hours a day isn't much at all for a dog being alone as long as they are getting exercise otherwise. Please keep in mind, I forgot when getting my first Aussie, a dog that is active as an adult is SUPER active as a pup and they often can't do the activities as a pup that you plan to do with them as an adult due to immature bone structure so you'll need other options.

  3. i would say a german shepherd since they will be one of your most loyal friends and if you want one start of for a puppy for sure like 1 or 2 months old and they will make a good guard dog and you can scare off burglers and things like that me myself wants a german shepherd but i can't find one i'm still looking ok here is what kind of german shepherd you should get, get a german shepherd pure bred male puppy DO NOT get a mix you want the biggest and the best so DON'T get a mix hope this helps

  4. I think you should definately get a laberdoodle. Its a poodle and a lab, and if you look them up there so cute, SOOOOO active, soooo fun, and can be trained very easily. And their pretty expensive but it sounds like you could afford it.

  5. I think Labrador Retriever is pretty fit to u, and then Husky and Greyhound sounds pretty good too. :D I would suggest a big dog that excercise much since you have a big back yard. Out of all those ones, i would definately not suggest boxer, beagle, and russell terrier (even though it is really cute...)

  6. It sounds to me like you want a loyal, intelligent dog that needs a lot of exercise.  It also sounds like the dog will live in the house.  You have already picked some breeds that interest you, good job.  Your picks range greatly in size and grooming requirements, so I have a dog that is somewhat in a happy medium.

I am going to suggest that you look into an australian shepherd.  They range from 35 to 50 pounds.  These dogs just go go go.  They love agility, flyball, love to fetch, are loyal, smart and friendly.  They also come in a variety of very stunning colors.  They do have a medium length coat, so they don't shed like a shepherd or a siberian, but they do shed more than a lab or schnauzer.  They need at least a weekly thorough brush down.  Like siberian huskies, aussies clean themselves, somewhat like a cat.  Meaning if it comes into the house muddy, (and it will...)  in a few minutes, it will have cleaned himself.  They also have very little doggy odor.

They absolutely do need at least a puppy class, and a beginning obedience class.  Like most breeds, if they are not socialized extensively before 5 months, they become wary of strangers, and can become aggressive.  Besides, puppy class is fun!

  7. I would either choose a Labrador or a beagle because they are very active dogs. But also a siberian husky is a nice dog because it has thick fur for the winter and it is active but I wouldn't choose that dog because grooming and it takes a while to groom but you have school so I wouldn't get that type.

    Good luck! :)

  8. ok you have asked this question on yahoo answers 13 times with an average of 14 answers to each time you ask this. you haven't found an answer yet? so i really dont think this is serious. stop wasting everyones time.

p.s. you are 14 years old. how the h**l are you going to buy a dog, buy it an "agility course" and toys and food. and a tv? are you serious?

go to school before your parents find out you're spending all your time on the internet.

  9. Those dogs are all very different breeds that fit into different life styles.  All would do well in an active home with the owner away for 5hrs a day.  I would recommend doing more research on the breeds you are looking at and determining which best fits into the lifestyle you can give it.  The one thing I would like to point out is the Italian Greyhound is significantly more delicate (easily injured) that the other breeds you have listed so I wouldn't recommend it if you have small children as they are more prone to handle a dog too roughly.

  10. Well, some medium and big dogs can be in your favor since u only are gone 5 hrs and can do execrise and play w/ him as well.  Its truely up to your willingness to know which one you find actrive.  Most are your does are kinda of the Spitz family.  Some of your dogs are working and hunting groups.    I myself have a Siberian Husky. So far I like him. He rarely ever barks.  But the down side he does shed 2 times a year. He is very loveable breed and ot agressive.  But again the choice is up to u.
