Question:

What don't you like about cloth diapering?

I have asked questions before about cloth diapers and all of the mother's that use them rave about them, especially the bumgenius 3.0's. Is there anyone out there that doesn't like these or they didn't work for their baby? I am trying to decide if we are really going to go to cloth or not. Also, if you use bumgenius 3.0's - do they work well for trim babies? My daughter is on the smaller size for her age.

Thanks!

  1. I love fuzzi bunz and thirsties! But I also just use pre-folds with covers. The idea of an all in one that is one size doesnt seem like a good idea to me. But to each their own. I love coth diapering!

  2. I just got mine in the mail and tried to use it on my baby. I think he is used to disposables, because he cried when I put it on him and stopped crying when I took it off. Its bulky, thats why he may be crying. My husband says Im crazy that hes only 8 weeks and how could he tell the difference between diapers. All I know is that he stopped crying when I took it off and put the disposable back on. I am still going to keep trying to use them though. They will save us lots of money. Havent the prices on disposables been outrageous?

  3. I don't know what the newer cloth diapers are shaped like but the old ones were so difficult to shape to little bottoms and washing so many diapers with a little one to take care of was really getting me down.  I couldn't keep up with all the laundry and everything else.

  4. I don't like travling in a car 3,000 miles with a load of S****y diapers in the car.

  5. i used cloth diapers but it was almost 20 years ago. they were just the old fashioned square cotten ones, but i had a diaper service and they were so soft and smelled wonderful. my baby never ever had a diaper rash. I used plastic pants over them. It was hard at first getting them to fit snugly, but once i got the hang of it (2 days of changing a newborn!) it was easy. They fit better than disposables because all of that bulk from palstic isn't between their legs. You can also fold the diaper smaller to adjust to the baby's size. Even paying for a service in those days it was cheaper than disposables. The other benefit was it was easy to tell when the baby was wet. Disposable absorb so well that it's too easy to leave them on for too long. And they are environmentally friendly!

The downside is much more frequent diaper changes. I used disposbales at night after a couiple of months and also when away from home. (or when Daddy was watching her-he had a tough time with the cloth ones!)

They may not be for you-you need to do what is best for you. Give it a try-you can always switch! Or, if they are still more economical, use them sometimes to save a little money.

Good luck with the new little one!

  6. I use BG 3.0, Fuzzi Bunz, and prefolds with a Bummis cover and like all 3.  BG 3.0 will be fine on a smaller baby because they are completely adjustable with the Velcro tabs.  I prefer to use prefolds with the covers during the day with a Snappi because I hate the way the pocket dipes look under clothes (it sometimes looks like a big pad stuffed between their legs, especially with a doubler).  BG 3.0s have no negatives as far as I can tell if you wash them properly and buy extra doublers and whatnot for nighttime.

  7. I love it. I used disposables on my first little girl and she was allergic to so many different kinds that I ended up having to use only pampers which aren't cheap. So i opted to use cloth with my second little girl and she has never had diaper rash at all. The only down side I can see to cloth diapering for me is that it is hard to figure out the best combination for overnight diapering. My daughter is a very heavy wetter. Also some of the different covers and things can be quite pricey. I use just prefolds, a snappi, and pull-on covers as well as some prorap covers.

  8. the wool soakers taking so long to dry

i do not like the aio, pocket, etc type
