the answer depends on the type of ideal Manager you have in mind.  As a general concept, a manager manages everything to the best effort he or she can in order to contribute well for the betterment of the service, the business, his/her rank and files, his/her peers, the management, their stakeholders, suppliers and customers, and the institution as a whole to keep the profitability and legacy of the business identity itself.  The manager works for the Institution most of the time and less for himself as long as he is compensated well and enough for his needs.
