What dose it mean wen a SD card needs to be reformatted?

I have an SD card and wen i put it in my camera it says memory card needs reformatting. So about a week ago i reformatted it and i haven't used it since then and now its asking me to do it again is it a bad card, it deletes all the pics wen u reformat so i dont want to loose a bunch of pics what should i do?

The very first time you insert any memory card into a device, the card needs to be formatted so that it can be configured specifically to that device. It shouldn't keep asking you to reformat it, however. Try inserting a new card in and see what happens. If it still asks you to reformat, try returning the camera. Best of luck!
