What drills and exercises can I do with my friend to get her ready for volleyball tryouts?

Volleyball tryouts are in 4 days! My friend really wants to make the team, and slots are hard to get in to. What can I do with her to help her get ready? Today, she came over and I tossed the ball to her and she'd hit it. We'd visualize the net and count up how many hits (balls that would go over the net) and misses she'd get. Is that a good thing to do?

  1. start with the basics. make sure she has the right positioning of the hands and passes the ball with ease. Thats the most important thing of volleyball. A good pass gets a good set and an excellent kill. Next work on spiking drills. If you have access to a net, throw it up and make her hit it, making sure its inbounds of course. Then work on her serving. Stepping into the ball while hitting it gives you more power into your serve. Also a medium toss helps the ball go right over the net,not to high but not too low. When shes on the team, she will learn more than the basics, but for now, start out with those. It helps and I know because i have to teach kids who are just learning to play and thats what i do everyday. We start with passing drills, then spiking, and then serving. It helps a lot . All the best.

  2. bumping and setting back and forth, moving to get the ball, and practice serving. tossing it to her is good for developing her accuracy and placement of the ball. it also lets her work on how hard or soft to hit the ball. visualizing the net is good as well.

    good luck!

  3. go to a gym that has a net set up and work on basics that what you really need

  4. First of all, you can't really imagine exactly where the net will go.  So that won't really help.

try doing some warm-up exercices first, like right arms throws, left arms throws, bounce passes, that will help her arms get stronger.

then, just bump or set the ball back and forth to each other without letting it touch the ground.  that'll make her skills better.  it'll also help get you guys going for the ball all the time-- that's the most important thing to volleyball

    hope it helps :)
