Question:

What dryer setting should I use so my new clothes don't shrink?!

So, I have always had this problem. I buy clothes a size too big so that when I put them in the dryer they will shrink to the right size...but they always fit funny. Either they shrink too much or it didnt shrink enough.

So now I have started buying clothes in the correct size I need and hang drying. But the collars, and sleeves get stretched out and jeans are stiff.

So what do I do? Anyone have any advice? Do I use air dry? high heat? Anti-wrinkle guard? haha

  1. try it on low heat or fluff.  The fluff setting is no heat I think, all dryers are a little different.  The heat is what shrinks the clothes so the less you use the better chance you have of not shrinking them.  Use a anti static sheet or a fabric softener sheet, it will make them smell great and make the jeans soft when you tumble dry them.

  2. If you want to shorten the hang dry time and get softer jeans.  Hang them dry and then on the damp dry section or the air fluff section run it for about 10 minutes or so.

  3. Hang all clothes you care about. Especially underwear. They'll last forever. Some knits will only rebound in the dryer so you'll have to accept a little shrinkage with them. The jeans and pants when hung like at the store will looked pressed but will loosen up with a half hours wear.
