  1. hi, i'd done the same myself. In Australia, we use what is called a 'region 4' DVD code and player. America on the other hand use either region 2 or 3 (i cant remember which), either way, the only way to get around this is to either buy an american dvd player, or, use your computer to burn a new copy of your original dvds. When you burn a new copy, this (depending on your settings) will either remove the region code altogether, or replace it with the australian code. Be aware however, that whilst the DVD burner in your computer is able to change its region, it will only do it a set number of times (usually 5) before it locks on the last dvd you put in.

this isn't something to necessarily worry about, there are programs available that will fix this by blocking the dvd's code checker in the computer, however you use these programs at your own risk (in the past some people claim that it has played around with their computer). Should you choose to burn your DVDs, and do want the program to overlook the region code, the one i use is called 'DVD43'. This one is free and i personally have had no troubles with it.

So in short, the only way you will be able to watch your American DVDs is by re-burning them, and then they should work.

Hope this helps, and again, if you do choose to use a program that overlooks the region code, you do use it at your own risk.

    Good luck!

  2. Region 1!

  3. You need a player that would accept region 1 DVDs.  Also, check the DVD's packaging.  If it says that it's in NTSC format, then you would also need a TV capable of getting NTSC signal since the US uses this instead of PAL.

Alternatively, you can just try playing them back on your computer's DVD drive.
