  1. The founder of the Merovingian dynasty of Frankish kings, Clovis defeated the last Roman ruler in Gaul and conquered various Germanic peoples in what is today France. His conversion to Catholicism (instead of the Arian form of Christianity practiced by many Germanic peoples) would prove a landmark development for the Frankish nation.


  2. He was the grandson of Merovech the founder of the Merovingian dynasty of Salian Francia. Merovech seems a shadowy figure, possibly not a real person, but the tomb of his son Childeric I is known.

    However Clovis was the first King to unite (for a while) Francia.
