  1. Lizards and bluegills are the things I see most eating bass eggs. A good way to catch bedding bass is to throw a lizard and drag it on the bottom around beds. Bass are protective of their eggs and will often eat a lizard even if it's not hungry. That is the best way of getting rid of the threat. Catching bedding bass is controversial though. Basically anything is a threat to a bass if it gets close enough to the eggs.

  2. Well, crayfish, frogs, other fish (including other largemouth bass) will eat LM bass eggs. Of course, if it were me, I'd leave him alone. You want the bass population furthered, right, so you'll have more to catch later in the year and next year? If you take him from the nest, then those hundreds of eggs, maybe even thousands depending on how popular he is, will get eaten. You can still cast out a little further and try to get the other males trying to encroach on his spot or the females that have already laid their eggs.

It's up to you, but it's just a thought to ponder.

  3. salamanders

  4. I will eat those eggs with gusto

  5. walleye bluegill carp crappie

but if you think bass have eggs now you are very wrong

that happens early to late spring

  6. An easier question is "What doesn't eat Bass eggs?"...Pretty much every fish or animal in the water will eat them if they get the chance...that is the main reason why a Bass always tries to build it's nest with a piece of structure covering a 1/3 of the area...like they will bed right up on the bank or in front of a stump..this is so the Buck (or male Bass) doesn't have to guard the whole area...the Sow (or female Bass) will only be on the bed if the Buck leaves...so if you see about a 4lb Buck on the bed...catch him off and put him in your live-well...then come back to the area in a hour or so, and more than likely the Sow will be guarding the bed...she beds with more than one Buck usually...and a big Sow will most always bed with a big Buck (most Bucks don't get over 5lbs)...so enough on the s*x life of Bass...to catch them off the bed...well remember a Bass does not have hands...so they have to get intruders out of their bed by using their mouth (well most of the time...I have seen them sweep a bait out of their bed with their tail and I have seen them "blow" the bait out of their bed too)...the main thing to look for is to see if the Bass is "Locked On"...you can tell by him or her not leaving when you get close to the bed or only going a few feet away and then coming back...if they are "Locked On" they are easier to catch...but it still may be a long process...try using a color you can see well in the water...most people now are using white...cast the bait past the bed and drag it in...then let it sit there and just shake the bait...if the Bass swims up to it and what I call "Noses" the bait (best way to describe this is the Bass will look at the bait and let it's tail float up)...then watch your bait, if it disappears, set the hook, because most of the time they are just going to open their gills and suck it in and then swim right out side the bed and drop it...it can take some time...I have known people to sit on one fish for up to two or three hours trying to get it to bite...I don't have the patience for it...I really do not like "Sight Fishing", but this is how it is done...hope this helps...

  7. two things will demand a strike and no one mentioned the plastic lizard I use it almost exclusively when fish are on the bed and then you can not forget to use the infamous plastic frog (or jig and pig) turtles and snakes also eat all kinds of fish eggs but I have never seen a little turtle shaped bait Hmmmmmm we might be on something here???????

  8. Use a soft plastic lizard. Bass hate lizards. Please release the bass  after you catch it, the fish is protecting the eggs and fry. It is the future of our fishery. Thank you!

  9. Other fish, especially bluegill and perch.

  10. It is way too late in the season to be concerned with bass eggs. The spawn has been over for months.

While spawning bass are very territorial and will attack anything moving on it's bed. Try this out next Spring and see for yourself.

As far as using turtles for bait they are already on the market. Here is an example of only one of the many different styles available:

  12. i know its tempting to fish at this time. but leave the fish alone. let them spawn and then after they are done start casting crawlers. if u provoke them and they eat ur bait then they leave thier eggs and those possible fish will not be able to live. now if u REALLY wanna fish make sure to release them into the spot you got the hit from. take it from a sport fisherman its better to wait until spawning is over. thanks

  13. Frogs, crayfish, other fish.
