Question:

What edible plants could I grow indoors?

I don’t have a garden, only a balcony that has been closed off (but still gets loads of light), I’ve been growing a load of things but would love to grow something more useful, like food. Herbs are obvious, they will be getting grown on my kitchen window, but is there anything else I could grow indoors?

Also, if I do grow anything edible indoors would I be able to use something like a kids sandpit filled with soil? – I figure it would be better for space saving. Then use deep pots for things like radishes?

  1. if you can try to grow dandelions  they are edible and are classified as a weed!  the younger the flower the better tasting as the flower grows older it does taste more bitter!

for the most part anything that grows out side can be grown inside!  depending on the temp of home and quality of soil!  and or weather it needs a bug to help produce a harvest!

Most garden flowers are edible as well however don't eat the ones you get from a nursery they put non edible stuff in it!  so if you grow them yourself you can have a very Fancy meals!

    good luck

  2. Your local garden centre will sell you "grow bags". Easy to transport on a pram/pushchair. They cost about 99p and you can grow tomatoes, get a strawberry "pot", mushrooms - get a starter pot/box. In the grow bags you can grow almost anything, all salad stuff except you may need something deeper for spring onion......good luck. Oh yes, make sure your plants are shaded from hot sun on the balcony. Install a sheet of cardboard or hang a towel and keep them well watered (at night)

  3. chili peppers and regular peppers will grow and fruit all year indoors.Aubergine or citrus

  4. I'm just here for the points.

  5. Cress is yummy in egg sandwichs and its a real space saver, you only need a youghurt pot or some folded up tissue!!

Tomatoes will grow ok on you balcony but its a little late to be planting them this year.

The sandpit sounds liek a good idea but make sure its a rather deep one,

If you do get somewhere deep enough you could grow potatoes. They have got really expensive in the supermarkets as well so think of the money you'll save!!

  6. Tomatoes, Cucumbers, try filling a window box with soil and planting lettuce, grows quickly and kids love it,  green peppers, mustard and cress,  you can even grow potatoes in a black sack. Kids love watching things grow especally from seed.

    Good Luck

  7. Tomatos grow quite well indoors in a pot as long as they get good light.
