What effect did the election of 1800 have on the friendship of Jefferson and Adams?

I cant find this anywhere... anyone know? Also what happened to their friendship in the last years of their lives? Thanks.

  1. their relationship was strained due to their competing idealogic views.  their opinions on government were polar opposites.  jefferson was in favor of a small government and a loose confederation of states and adams was in favor of a large government that had worldwide power and influence.  they were political opponents and their contrasting political views led them to suspend their friendship for many years because of the constant bickering and disagreement.  however, years later they reconciled and remained close friends for the rest of their lives.  they wrote letters back and forth respected each other greatly despite their political differences.
